Board Policy Regarding Volunteers

  • All volunteers must follow district policies, maintain confidentiality, and model appropriate behavior.
  • Background checks are only required for volunteers who work unsupervised with students. Fingerprinting and criminal records checks are conducted before starting, at the district’s discretion, and may be at the volunteer’s expense.
  • Prohibited offenses: Volunteers cannot serve if they have convictions for serious crimes such as violent offenses, child endangerment, sex-related crimes, major drug offenses, or other felonies
  • Athletic volunteers (coaches, assistants, etc.) may need a Pupil Activity/Coaching Permit from the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce. This includes training in sudden cardiac arrest response and student mental health.
  • Volunteers are covered under the district’s liability policy, but not under health insurance or workers’ compensation.
  • Volunteers may not accept compensation of any kind for their service.
