The Transportation Department partners with families and the community to help keep our students safe on and around school buses. In alignment with Ohio law, all students participate in school bus safety training each year.

During this time, students take part in bus evacuation drills to practice exiting safely in case of an emergency. At the elementary level, students also receive hands-on instruction in:

• Safely boarding and exiting the bus
• Crossing the street using safe procedures
• Following bus rules and expectations

By working together, we help students build confidence and responsibility, making every ride to and from school a safe one.

Do you accept bus passes for students?
No. For the safety of all students, bus passes are not accepted at the High School, Junior High, or Elementary levels.

Can I call the Transportation Department to change my child’s drop-off location or address?
No. To ensure student safety, all changes must be submitted using the appropriate transportation forms. Phone requests are not accepted. All forms are available on Final Forms.

What is alternate transportation?
Alternate transportation refers to a student’s daily pick-up and drop-off at a location other than their home address. This arrangement must be consistent and is not intended for occasional or “backup” use. For example, if your child will be picked up and dropped off at a babysitter’s home every day during the school year, an Alternate Transportation Request Form must be completed.

Can my child have an alternate transportation location?
Yes. Students may request one (1) alternate location, as long as it is along an existing current year bus route. Requests are granted on a space-available basis only. An Alternate Transportation Request form must be completed and submitted at least 72 hours prior to the requested start date. All forms are available on Final Forms.

What are the rules for preschool and kindergarten drop-off?
For safety reasons, a parent or designated guardian must be present for the driver to release a preschool or kindergarten student from the bus.

• First & Second Occurrence: If no adult is present, the driver will attempt to contact the parent/guardian and may return to the stop after completing the route.
  Third Occurrence: If no adult is present, the student will be brought back to the Elementary building after the route has ended. A parent/guardian will then be responsible for picking up the child from school.

What is a “place of safety”?
Each student is assigned a designated place of safety at their bus stop.

• Pick-Up: Students must be at their designated place of safety 5 minutes before pick-up.
• Drop-Off: Students must remain at their place of safety until the school bus has completely departed before going home.
