It is our belief at Weston Elementary School that reading truly will provide the spice of life and open new worlds for our students. In our library, students will unfold the world of Judy Blume's character "Fudge", learn about heroes and the sacrifice they paid in our series of September 11, 2001 books, find help for class reports in the "World Book Encyclopedia", learn how to better use library resources in the video series "Tomes and Talisman's", and more with over 7,000 books and magazines available. Weston Elementary Library provides a variety of reading and reference materials for kindergarten through sixth grade.

Each class patronizes the Library once a week for thirty-five minutes. In addition to checking out materials, students are also taught the fundamentals of using a library. The students in grades first through sixth may check out two books and kindergartners may check out one book. Materials are due back one week from checkout (during the regular library visit time). Students not returning their materials will not be able to check out any new materials. Overdue fines are not accessed, however, lost books will result in a replacement fee. Materials not returned before the end of grading periods will cause the student's grade card to be held.

Beginning in January, Weston Elementary third graders will also participate in the Accelerated Reader program. Accelerated Reader helps make sure students reading at above average levels keep their reading skills top notch. This program also challenges students minds and develops a love of reading! Accelerated Reader students can chose a book that is marked with an "A." After reading the book they can take a test on a computer in their classroom and earn points.

We also encourage parent involvement in the library. Parents are welcome to volunteer by helping students select and sign out books, shelve books and perform other duties that need done. We love our volunteers, and know that our students enjoy seeing parents take an active role in their school.

Thank you for visiting our site! If you have any questions, comments, or suggestions concerning the library, please do not hesitate to contact me!

For the love of reading,

Elaine Schroeder
