PARENT TEACHER ORGANIZATION - P.T.O.

The primary objectives of PTO are to engage in fund raising to support our school, as well as to create an HES community through events and communication. The monies we raise go directly to supplementing school needs, and our objective this year is classroom enrichment/enhancement activities, as well as supporting needed upgrades of existing technology.

Haskins PTO runs an email information list that serves to enhance communication about the many events listed below as well as community and school specific information. Sign up to receive occasional emails by emailing us.

Officers for 2010-2011

SEPTEMBER

PTO MIXER – Parents can come and join us on the evening of our first PTO meeting for the year to meet other involved parents, find out more about what PTO does, and see how you can be involved in your school.

PIZZA NIGHT FUNDRAISER – Watch for information on how you can support the school simply by ordering your family pizza on key nights.

OCTOBER

BOOK FAIR – Working in conjunction with Scholastic Books, the PTO hosts the annual book fair as a fundraiser to support school needs including library resource requirements. Children benefit with increased access to books, but also in seeing the value placed on reading in our school.

FAMILY FUN NIGHT - Carnival games, Bingo, hayrides, raffles, face painting, food, and more! This offers a great opportunity to bring families together for a night of fun! We end the evening with a dance presented by Doug Michaelis!

NOVEMBER

GIFT CARD ORDERS – Get your holiday shopping done early and simply by ordering all your gift card needs through the PTO at face value. The PTO helps simplify your life while raising needed funds to support classroom activities and supplies.

DECEMBER

CHRISTMAS STORE - Donations of gift items are accepted, and other items are available from the PTO. Students are given the opportunity to shop for gifts for family members: Everything is a dollar! Parent volunteers assist students while they shop and wrap their gifts. A wonderful opportunity for students to share the excitement of the holidays with others!

JANUARY

On Friday, Jan. 13 we will be holding another movie night and showing Mr. Popper's Penguins. Doors open at 6:30 and movie starts around 7:00. Please bring a canned good donation for the Otesgo Food Pantry. Children must be supervised during this event and that they need to stay in the gym for the duration of the movie.

If you are able to come and volunteer with concessions or other assistance at the movie night, please respond to Georgie Berry at crazychicken91@yahoo.com.

FEBRUARY

PISANELLO'S PIZZA NIGHT!!
Simply order from the Waterville Pisanellos on Wednesdays in February and mention the PTO and we will receive a percentage of sales! Call 419-878-7020 and remember to mention the PTO!

SPAGHETTI SUPPER/AUCTION - This is one of our major fundraisers. We serve a spaghetti dinner with all the trimmings, and then hold an auction to raise money for the school. All supper and auction items are donated. This event is held at the high school and is a wonderful community event.

The 2012 date is March 16!
Spaghetti dinners will be available from 5-7PM with a silent and live auction beginning approximately at 6PM. Money raised will go towards the purchase of additional playground equipment.

I need empty plastic coffee canisters, with the handle build into them. I think it’s the Folgers brand. If you have one, please send it to school with your child and have them take it to the office. I will pick it up from there. Please send to school by March 9, 2012. Thanks - Katherine London, co-chair spaghetti dinner.

MAY

STAFF APPRECIATION - The PTO sponsors a breakfast and/or lunch for all staff members to enjoy. Small gifts, such as individual potted plants, are also presented to our staff members in appreciation for all they do.

FIELD DAY - The PTO works with the staff to provide an action-packed day of outdoor recreation for the students. Students receive ribbons for their participation.

OTHER PROJECTS SUPPORTED:

MINI GRANTS - The PTO provides funding of mini grants that are requested of teachers and staff members for classroom enrichment, curriculum development, technical equipment, computer software, and cultural experiences. In addition to mini grants, teacher's cash (a small stipend to start off the school year) is presented to each teacher.

ACCELERATED READER - We are proud to sponsor the Accelerated Reader program at Haskins Elementary. Students can earn points by reading Accelerated Reader books and passing a computer test. Points are then accumulated and prizes are awarded. This is a wonderful incentive for students to want to read!

PERMANENT IMPROVEMENTS - The Haskins PTO has spent a great deal of money for permanent improvements at the school. Some of them include: smart boards, playground drainage and equipment, ceiling fans, computers and printers, computer tables and chairs, outdoor sign, screens for all of the windows, walking track, and much more.

SCHOLARSHIP - The PTO funds a scholarship for former Haskins students graduating from Otsego High School. A Scholarship Committee is formed, and an application process utilized to select the recipient's) each year.

The PTO also coordinates the collection of General Mills Box Tops, Campbell's Labels, and Caprisun pouches. Collection boxes are available by the office at the school.

Over the past few years, PTO also supports such notable events and activities as:

  • Summer Reading Program
  • Glass Projects
  • Organizing in-class support
  • 13ABC basketball fun night
  • Craft Nights
  • Author Visit
  • Thanksgiving Servers
  • Last Day of School Cookout

GET INVOLVED! If you are a parent or a teacher in the Haskins Elementary Community, you are a PTO member. We need your support to help make our school the best possible learning environment that it can be! It is only through the hard work and dedication of a lot of people that these community events and school support funds can be provided.

Please consider joining us for a meeting the second Tuesday of every month at 6:30 pm in the HES Art Room. Latchkey is provided at no charge for children of all ages. If meetings aren’t your thing, sign up for a family challenge or volunteer for another event. Email us at HaskinsPTO@gmail.com or call our President for more information.
