Haskins Special Programs

PRESCHOOL - HASKINS ELEMENTARY

The Otsego Preschool Program operated at Haskins is a self-supported, developmentally appropriate play-based program aligned with Otsego's curriculum which supports the Ohio Department of Education's guidelines and academic standards.

The Preschool Program is located in the school and employs only certified teachers, while maintaining a low student to teacher ratio.  It includes all of the benefits of being in an elementary school, such as special area instruction, school lunches, field trips, assemblies, PTO sponsored programs, Student Council sponsored programs and much more.

Registration and tuition information for typically developing children may be obtained at
the school office at Haskins or downloaded.  Questions and registration information regarding children who may have special needs can be directed to the Preschool Director at
419-823-1591.

AMERICA READS - HASKINS ELEMENTARY

With the cooperation and financial assistance of BGSU and the America reads grant, Haskins students have the opportunity to receive one-on-one and small group tutoring assistance throughout the school day. After school hours are available on a limited basis as well and will be arranged by classroom teachers.

Reading A-Z

In coop with BGSU, the Reading A-Z program is a supplimental reading program that provides one-on-one or small group instruction to students throughout the day.  It's goal is t improve students' reading ability through leveled instruction.

Reading Recovery

Reading Recovery is a highly effective short-term intervention of one-on-one lessons for low-achieving first graders.  In Reading Recovery, individual students receive a half-hour lesson each school day for 12 to 20 weeks with a specially trained Reading Recovery teacher.  Haskins' Reading Recovery teacher is Mrs. Nancy Villalta.  As soon as students reach grade level literacy expectations and demonstrate that they can continue to learn through their own efforts, their lessons are discontinued and new students begin individual instruction.  This program has been very effective since its start at Haskins.
