OCTOBER
BOOK FAIR - Working with the Library Aide, we provide an
opportunity for students to purchase many different kinds of books. It's fun to
watch their eyes light up when they find just the right book. This is not a
fund-raiser for the PTO, but our Library benefits greatly from these events, as
it provides the opportunity to purchase new materials.
FAMILY FUN NIGHT - Carnival games, Bingo, hayrides, raffles, face painting, food, and more! This offers a great opportunity to bring families together for a night of fun! We end the evening with a dance presented by Doug
Michaelis!
DECEMBER
CHRISTMAS STORE - Donations of gift items are accepted, and other items are available from Fun Services. Students are given the opportunity to shop for gifts at reasonable prices. Parent volunteers assist students while they shop and wrap their gifts. A wonderful opportunity for students to share the excitement of the holidays with others!
MARCH
SPAGHETTI SUPPER/AUCTION - This is one of our major fundraisers. We serve a spaghetti dinner with all the trimmings, and then hold an auction to raise money for the school. All supper and auction items are donated. This event is held at the high school.
MAY
STAFF APPRECIATION - The PTO sponsors a breakfast for all staff members to enjoy. Small gifts, such as individual potted plants, are also presented to our staff members in appreciation for all they do.
FIELD DAY - The PTO works with the staff to provide an action-packed day of outdoor recreation for the students. Students receive ribbons for their participation.
ALL SCHOOL ENRICHMENT DAY - This is a learning experience for the students in areas ranging from Careers, History, Health, and Environment. Upon choosing a topic, the PTO arranges for local citizens and experts to share their experiences/talents with the students. This is a fun-filled day that offers the students a look into the past, present and future.
OTHER PROJECTS FUNDED:
MINI GRANTS - The PTO provides funding of mini grants that are requested of teachers and staff members for curriculum development, technical equipment, computer software, field trips, and cultural experiences (i.e. music programs). In addition to mini grants, teacher's cash (a small stipend to start off the school year) is presented to each teacher.
ACCELERATED READER - We are proud to sponsor the Accelerated Reader program at Haskins Elementary. Students can earn points by reading Accelerated Reader books and passing a computer test. Points are then accumulated and prizes are awarded. This is a wonderful incentive for students to want to read!
PERMANENT IMPROVEMENTS - The Haskins PTO has spent a great deal of money for permanent improvements at the school. Some of them include: playground drainage and equipment, ceiling fans, computers and printers, computer tables and chairs, outdoor sign, screens for all of the windows, walking track, and much more.
SCHOLARSHIP - The PTO funds a scholarship for former Haskins students graduating from Otsego High School. A Scholarship Committee is formed, and an application process utilized to select the
recipient's) each year.
The PTO also coordinates the collection of General Mills Box Tops, Campbell's Labels, and Tyson's labels. Collection boxes are available by the office at the school.
