Nuthatch

White-breasted Nuthatch
Sitta carolinensis

Nuthatches are small stout birds with thin sharp bills, short square tails, and strong legs and feet. They climb about tree trunks and branches often hanging head down. They nest in cavities which they frequently excavate themselves in the soft wood of dead stumps, stubs, or branches from 4 to 120 feet up.
