Mammals are warm-blooded, air-breathing, milk-producing vertebrates with hair. With only two exceptions, the platypus and echidna which lay eggs, they give birth to live young. They provide parental care to their offspring. Being warm-blooded means that the mammal's body maintains a nearly constant temperature independent of their environment. This allows the mammal to be active and therefore more in control of its surroundings. All mammals have hair although in some cases, such as whales, the hair may be in the form of bristles. Most mammals also have four feet and a tail. Aquatic mammals such as the seal have flippers which serve many of the same functions as feet. Mammals in Wood County certainly fit the general descriptions of most mammals. You will find that all have hair, four feet, and do not lay eggs.
