Bluegill

Description:
Size, usually 4 - 9 in., rarely to 11 in.; rod and reel record, 4.75 lb. Back olive with blue and orange on sides; mouth small and rarely reaching front edge of eye; 2 bluish bars extend back from mouth and chin; dusky spot on last three dorsal rays.
Habitat:
 Warm, weedy waters of bays, ponds, and lakes.
Food:
 Insects, smaller fishes, and crayfish.
Range:
Drainages of Great Lakes, Mississippi River, Gulf coast, and Atlantic coast, north to New Jersey.
