Name:
Blue Racer
Scientific Name: Coluber constrictor subspp
Location: Western Ohio
Habitat: sparse vegetation
Info: This snake is a relative to the smaller Black racer inhabiting eastern Ohio. This is the fastest of Ohio's snakes reaching speeds of up to 10 mph. These snakes are extremely nervous and become very aggressive when an attempt is made to capture them. They strike viciously and can inflict a painful bite with their small but numerous teeth. When alarmed, they rapidly vibrate the tip of their tail, as do many other species of snakes.
