Elementary ala-carte sales will be resuming the week of September 12. All the items sold will meet the SB210 regulations and will cost between .25 and .50 cents. The students will only be allowed to purchase one item per day and if their lunch account does not have a memo on it stating that we have permission from the parents to use their lunch account to purchase ala-carte, they will have to have cash.

We will be offering ice cream options on Fridays only in the form of low fat vanilla and chocolate frozen yogurt cups for .50 or a mini ice cream sandwich for .25.

If you have any questions please call me at 419-823-4381 ext. 1104 or e-mail me at nbeelman@otsegoknights.org.

CONGRATULATIONS to the Otsego Cafeteria Staff
Every five years, the Otsego Food Services Department completes the Coordinated Review Effort (CRE) conducted by the Ohio Department of Education, Office for Safety, Health, and Nutrition (ODE, OSHN). The Otsego program was found in compliance with all state and federal requirements and the ODE, OSHN complimented the staff on a job well done in the signed copy of the exit report.

The food services staff members must present the review board with many documents and records from their kitchens. These include records on free and reduced price lunches, menu records, calorie/nutrition records for each meal prepared, temperature logs, serving size, serving used, and servings left over for each day. There are 25 categories in all!

In addition to the review of all critical and general area of regulatory compliance, the following observations were noted in regard to the Otsego operation:

  • Records reviewed were complete and accurate.
  • Nice variety with the lunch menu.
  • Administration of food program was very organized and professional.
  • Students appeared happy and well cared for on the day of review.
  • Beautiful facility and kitchen.
  • Staff very friendly and professional.

A thank-you from Nancy Beelman, Food Services Director

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all our hard-working cafeteria staff members for the excellent work they did to help us pass our five-year state review with flying colors. We had the first part of our review, which covered the nutritional aspects of the lunch, in October at the Grand Rapids Elementary building. Chrissy Soto, head cook and Jean Burt, cook sub were a huge help in putting together all the necessary paperwork for evaluation. Thank you, ladies!

The second part of our review is called a Coordinated Review Effort. This review is more on the financial and service areas and was done in our high school and junior high buildings. I am very happy to say that we had no corrective actions in this area, and our state inspector was very pleased with our operations. Once again, I need to say a big thank-you to all my high school staff cooks and cashiers.

Mine is a very rewarding and challenging job that is made much easier by having such a hard-working and knowledgeable staff. I would appreciate it if others joined me in letting them know what a wonderful job they do and how much we all appreciate them.
