Plan for relocation of students

Next school year (2011 – 2012) should look pretty much the same for elementary and junior high students as this year. Students in grades PK through 5 will be housed at Grand Rapids and Haskins. 6th, 7th, and 8th graders will be housed at Otsego Junior High.

Significant changes will begin in 2012. Students in grades PK through 5 will be moved to the new elementary school in Tontogany in August 2012. At that time, Haskins Elementary School will be closed.

Students will be moved out of the Junior High School at the conclusion of the 2011 – 2012 school year so the facility can be totally renovated. All seventh and eighth graders will attend Junior High at the current Grand Rapids Elementary School beginning in August 2012.

There is a possibility that some or all of the sixth graders will be temporarily moved to the new elementary school during the renovation period at the junior high building. There may be extra room if all-day every-day kindergarten is not implemented by August of 2012. That determination will be made, as we get closer to 2012.

It is anticipated the renovation project will not take longer than one school year. (2012 – 2013) The newly renovated Otsego Junior High should open no later than August 2013.

Oct. 8 Update

This week the storm sewer was completed and the electric line installed to the site. Work has continued on the building pad. The pad area will be stoned the week of October 18th weather permitting. Completion of the early site work is still targeted for October 29, 2010. See timeline below.

The new elementary school will be behind the existing high school. We expect to complete early site preparation work in October, so that the project will not be held back by wet weather in the spring.

No new tax dollars were necessary to complete the new elementary school construction and the renovation of the junior high school. To follow is the schedule for both the new elementary construction and renovations to the existing Junior High School. BOTH WILL BE COMPLETED AT NO ADDITIONAL EXPENSE TO THE LOCAL TAXPAYERS OF THE OTSEGO LOCAL SCHOOL DISTRICT.
