BEGINDERGARTEN PROGRAM Karen Bluhm, Begindergarten Teacher A child must be 5-years-old and an off-day kindergarten student to attend Begindergarten. Classes will be on the days your child does not attend kindergarten (off days). If your child is in the Tuesday/Thursday/every other Monday kindergarten class then he/she would attend Begindergarten on Wednesday/Friday/every other Monday. The other kindergarten class would be held on Wednesday/Friday/every other Monday thus attending Begindergarten Tuesday/Thursday/every other Monday. Begindergarten operates during the normal school day, so the hours would be the same as kindergarten. This gives your child the opportunity to be in school Monday through Friday. Karen Bluhm is the Begindergarten teacher at both Grand Rapids and Haskins Elementary. She has a degree in elementary education in addition to 20 years of classroom experience at Otsego. She implements a consistent daily schedule and developmentally appropriate curriculum. Karen collaborates with the kindergarten teachers throughout the school year to help reinforce the concepts being taught by the kindergarten teachers. The cost of Begindergarten is $25.00 per day. In addition a $25.00 non-refundable registration/supply fee is required at the time of registration. Children will need to purchase a cafeteria lunch daily or bring a packed lunch from home. Children attending Begindergarten will be included in school-wide activities, assemblies, guest speakers, specials (gym, library or music) as well as recess. Registration forms are available via the link at the top of this page or at the elementary school offices. Registration is handled on a first-come/first-served basis. Class sizes will be limited.
