TV Display from Computer - 3 steps

NOTE:  United Streaming usually will not display properly through the TV; it will display properly using a projector.  If you have a black Dell XP GX 260 with the ATI Radeon 7500 video card and have followed the following steps, and can see the monitor display on your TV (but not the United Streaming video), please email Kathy Bradley - there is an update** that can be installed to permit viewing of United Streaming on these computers.  If you do not have a Dell computer like this, but have an Ultra (from SchoolNet Plus Round 3 August 1998) with video out click here.

1.  Connecting a Dell GX 260 Windows XP with s-video computer to a TV - these computers were from SchoolNet Plus Round 5 (November 2002) - the back looks like this:

  1. Turn off your computer and your television.

  2. Determine if your television has an S-Video input connector. If your television has RCA input, you will need an S-Video to RCA adapter.  If your TV does not have S-video and is connected to a VCR with S-video IN or RCA IN, you can use that instead.  The following picture shows an S-video cable from the computer connected to a female RCA adapter that is then connected to the RCA cable that is plugged into the RCA IN jack on a VCR (if it had been a male RCA adaptor, the additional RCA cable would not have been necessary).

  1. Locate the computer's S-Video output. Using an S-Video cable attach one end of the cable to the graphic card's S-Video connector and the other end to your television (or use the RCA adapter at the TV end); or follow the picture above to connect computer to VCR to TV.

  2. Turn on your computer and your television.

2.  Enabling and Disabling Television Display

  1. Right-click on your desktop and select Properties.

  2. Click on the Settings tab and then the Advanced... button.

  3. Click on the ATI Displays tab.

  4. Click on the enable/disable button next to the word "TV" to enable/disable television display.

  5. Click Apply to save the changes you have made.

NOTE: If there is no display on your television, you may need to switch it to video display mode. For more information, consult the documentation supplied with your television.

3.  Choosing The NTSC Standard

NOTE: You must first enable television display before you can perform these steps.

  1. Right-click on your desktop and select Properties.

  2. Click on the Settings tab and then the Advanced... button.

  3. Click on the ATI Displays tab.

  4. Click on the TV button, then click the Format tab.

  5. Click Select by Format then select NTSC (National Television System Committee:US standard) format from the drop-down list.

  6. Click Apply to save the changes you have made.

** Tech folder - ATI Radeon - install - reboot - from monitor increase vertical size of desktop - computer will be slower (KAB refer to file ATI Catalyst Control Center)

Ultra Computers - Display via TV

Old Ultra computers can display United Streaming via the TV as long as it is not "live" – save the video to the server and play from there, or insert the video into PowerPoint and save that to the server and play from there.

You should have the necessary cables that came with that computer to connect to the TV. Plug the small cable with several connectors into the back of the tower:

Plug one end of the RCA cable into the cable you just plugged in and the other end into the TV or VCR. You will probably need to set the TV or VCR to AUX, Line 1, or Line 2, as described in the manual that came with your TV or VCR.
