Printers

Inkjet printers will no longer be supported (as of January 2003).    Your printing needs will be served by one of three shared black laser printers available throughout the building, and one centrally located color laser printer. As these printers are set up you will be informed as to which black printer you have been assigned and how to print to the color printer.

Additional print cartridges for the classroom printers will not be purchased.  Some of the “recycled” cartridges already purchased are not viable.  As the classroom printers stop functioning, please email Kathy Bradley (ot_kab@nwoca.org) and give her any remaining cartridges you may have.  The printer will be removed and appropriate disposal paperwork completed.

Windows 95 - Old Computers

January 2003 - We are in the process of removing/replacing Windows 95 computers; this will probably take at least a year.  Windows 95 computers with 16 Mb RAM, 800 Mb hard drives running at 75 MHz (original horizontal SchoolNet Plus Round 1 computers purchased July 1996 and all-in-one Compaqs from October 1995) will no longer be supported.  Some of the SNP Round 2 computers (March 1997, Windows 95, 32 Mb RAM, 1.19 gig hard drive, 133 MHz) need to have the operating system upgraded.  Please keep your documents backed up regularly.

School-Owned Laptops

For support reasons, to insure updates and software checks, all school-owned laptops need to be brought to the building in which the staff member is assigned on a daily basis.  This is especially important for virus updates to occur, which take place via the building network.

Any other borrowed school peripherals (camera) should also be in the building on a daily basis.

Microsoft Works

MS Works is no longer supported by Microsoft or Otsego Tech Staff.  MS Works will no longer be installed on any new or repaired computers.  Works is in the process of being removed from classroom computers (as of June 2003); please do not use Works.  MS Office 2000 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) licenses have been purchased and will be installed on all new computers.  If you want Office on an existing computer, please email Kathy Bradley (ot_kab@nwoca.org).  Consider scheduling time during a NWOCA resource visit if you need to convert Works documents to Office.

General Software

Only authorized Otsego-owned software will be supported.  All software purchases/acquisitions (including donations, parent group purchases, etc.) need to be approved by Craig Flick (ots_aca_cfl@nwoca.org).  Appropriate licenses, donation forms, purchase requisitions will be required.

Assessment/Networked Software

First contact your building representative, the person who purchased the software or was put in charge of it by the principal (Kathy Bradley is not the building contact).  That contact person will then direct questions or problems about Accelerated Reader, STAR, WiggleWorks, etc. to Craig Flick (ots_aca_cfl@nwoca.org).

Documents - Back-up

You are responsible for backing up your documents on a regular basis.  Saving a copy of your documents in your personal folder on the building server is recommended; an additional location is desirable.  As computers are repaired it is sometimes necessary to reformat or replace the hard drive.  Have program CD’s available at the time of the repair.

E-Mail

We do not support Microsoft Outlook.  Please use NWOCA Webmail, which we do support.  Be sure to check your email at least once every three days - your email address is on the Otsego website and states you will respond within three days.

Moving Your Computers - Please do not move/remove your computers.  Space is a problem, but...  Networking issues, Inventory control, Salvaging, Disposal, etc. all have specific procedures that need to be followed.  Contact Craig.
