matches the letters you type against a dictionary
the computer has no idea what you mean - it only goes by the letters you type
computer's dictionary doesn’t have most proper nouns - your name will probably not be in the dictionary
dumb machine - smart human programmer and human operators - you are the operator
you must make proper spelling decisions
highlights words that are not in the dictionary, it does not say anything is not correctly spelled
if you repeat a word right next to itself it will suggest you eliminate the second word
if you do not put correct spaces after punctuation it will not have a suggestion but it will tell you it is not in the dictionary - you should make a change - put in the spaces needed
you must determine if you will accept its suggestions, or make your own changes, or accept the word as is
only use Ignore or Change, not the other buttons for now
best to place cursor at beginning of document before you start spelling checker (make sure you know how to use different "movement" keys- control home, arrow keys, delete, backspace)
