Protecting Files

Attributes

WHY?  You may wish to protect a file for student use - perhaps you have created a file that has words spelled incorrectly that you want each student to correct.  You would need to make the file read-only so the student could make changes, but could not save with the same name so the file would be intact for the next student to use; it would have to be saved with a new name - perhaps the old name followed by the students' initials.

HOW?  To protect a file in this manner you need to change its properties.  From within Windows Explorer or My Computer, right click the file name, click on properties, under Attributes click Read-only to place a check mark in its box, remove any other checkmarks, click Apply, click OK.  To "unprotect" a file, make it "Archive".
