WHY? You may wish to protect a file for student use - perhaps you have created a file that has words spelled incorrectly that you want each student to correct. You would need to make the file read-only so the student could make changes, but could not save with the same name so the file would be intact for the next student to use; it would have to be saved with a new name - perhaps the old name followed by the students' initials.
HOW? To protect a file in this manner you need to change its properties. From within Windows Explorer or My Computer, right click the file name, click on properties, under Attributes click Read-only to place a check mark in its box, remove any other checkmarks, click Apply, click OK. To "unprotect" a file, make it "Archive".
In the menu bar click Tools, click Protection, make a choice

Forms (a specialized Word document) Go to Tools in the menu bar, click Protect Document - click Forms, leave Password empty - click OK. |
