NETWORK
DESCRIPTION EXAMPLES FROM ELEMENTARY STAFF:
Example
1:
The network at each Otsego elementary building utilizes a 10baseT
architecture using hubs to connect classroom computers to a central building
server. Category five wiring is
used to connect classrooms to hubs with fiber optic for distances over one
hundred meters (such as used in our modular classrooms).
Buildings are connected to the DA site (NWOCA) via a T1 line using TCP/IP
protocol. The standard protocol
utilized in the district for LAN/WAN is TCP/IP protocol over an Ethernet
connection.
A
login procedure is necessary so the file server in the source elementary as well
as in the other two elementary building and other computers in the OTSEGOLAND
domain can be available. Some
folders are shared for general use. Each
staff member has a secure folder on the server that can only be access by
logging in with your own specific username and password.
Limited access to various folders is available to those who log on as
Student or Guest.
Each
classroom with more than two computers has a hub in the room and a deskjet
printer. A building’s black and
white networked laser printer can be accessed as needed.
Example
2:
Weston Elementary features a computer network, which links
classroom computers to to a central building server. Classroom computers are
linked, using hubs, and fiber optic cable. The T1 line, which uses TCP/IP
protocol, offers teachers instant internet access. Through this network,
teachers can access other computers within the building, as well as other
computers within the district.
In order to access the server, teachers must conduct a basic login
procedure, during which, usernames and passwords are entered. Once teachers have
completed this login procedure, they have access to computers in the OTSEGOLAND
domain.
Each classroom that is equipped with more than two computers has a hub,
which links the computers together, and a deskjet printer. The building also has
a black and white laser printer, which is networked, so teachers also have
access to this printer
Example
3:
We
have a network at our elementaries that use a 10baseT architecture that use hubs
that connect the classroom computers to the main buildilng server in the office.
I have category five wiring in my class to connect it to the main server since I
am in the modular which is over 100 meters from the server. The elementaries are
connected to the DA site (NWOCA) via a T1 line using TCP/IP protocol. The
district uses the LAN/WAN is TCP/IP
protocol over the Ethernet connection.
We have to login using the server so that we can connect with the other
elementaries in our district. The OTSEGOLAND is the domain that we use and that
is available to us.
We each have a hub in our classroom that connects the five computers in
our class to the main server in the buildling. The main server is in our office.
We have an inkjet printer in our class that is networked to all of the computers
in the room.
