Install a networked laser printer

The first time you logon to a Windows XP computer with your username and password you will have to install the printer for your use, even though another user has been printing it is only valid under their username.

1.  Log on properly

2.  Follow the correct path to the building server:
Network Neighborhood or My Network Places

                        Entire Network
(Windows 2000 & XP need an extra step -                               Microsoft Windows Network)

                               Otsegoland

                                 Wes1 or Hes1 or Gre1

3.  Double click on the desired printer.

            Black - HP laserjet 4050 or 4100

Color - HP color laserjet 4600

NOTE:  specific name varies by building and location within building

4.  Follow the onscreen instructions (if any - Windows XP will probably be installed without anything extra).  Be patient.  Windows 98 will require you to answer a few questions, some examples:
Do you use MS dos?  NO
       Keep existing driver
Do you want this to be your default printer?  You will have to decide.
Do you want to print a test page?  I usually say no, but it is your choice.

Set a default printer:

Start - Settings - Printers - right click the printer you want to use most - click Set as Default  (You can still print to a different printer by going to File and then Print, instead of using the shortcut button - under the Printer Name, drop down and click on the printer you want to use, be patient, click OK.)

Please read the “Printer Tips” document found elsewhere.

When you print:

Be sure you know which printer you are printing to.  If you are using the shortcut button in the tool bar, pause a moment as you point to it and a label should appear indicating the name of the printer.
