Saving Photos to the Building Server from a Camera using a USB cable - Added after the March 29, 2006 inservice
Refer to the camera's user manual.  Generally, you will have the camera turned off and the computer already on.  Then connect the USB cable to the camera and the computer.   Turn the camera on.  The Sony's will usually be automatically detected and appear in My Computer.  However, the Olympus' will need you to look at its LCD panel - be sure it says USB at the top, then select PC, then click OK on the camera; it then should be detected and appear in My Computer.  Most cameras show up as "removable disk" - double click on it, double click on the camera's folder that has the photos you want, drag the images from there to the desired location (folder on the server).

SERVER PHOTO FOLDER - Each elementary building has a folder named 2005 Photos in the Staff/Teacher folder on the building server.  Digital photos may be placed in the folder by a staff member properly logged into the building network with their own username and password (not the username “student”).  Staff members may create folders within the 2005 Photos folder.

The 2005 Photos folder may be reached in the same manner a teacher gets to their own folder on the building server.

  1. Network Neighborhood
  2. Entire Network
  3. (Windows 2000 & XP need an extra step - Microsoft Windows Network)
  4. Otsegoland
  5. Wes1 or Hes1 or Gre1
  6. Staff (Grand Rapids or Weston) Teachers (Haskins)
  7. 2005 Photos

The Knightly News editor  will be able to access each of these 3 folders from any elementary building by logging into its building network properly with her own username and password and following the above path.

If possible, please use a "standard" rather than "fine" setting for the photos.  Standard photos are of a smaller file size which makes it easier to transfer.

Digital pictures should be renamed with an identifying filename before being placed in the 2005 Photos folder.  Since each building has several of the same cameras, the potential exists that the same file name (i.e. mvc-331f.jpg) could have been generated by each of those cameras.

Please email the Knightly News editor whenever you place photos on the server that may be published.  Also include a brief description of the photo event.

Photo Printing in Windows XP - Just photos, no text

  1. From My Computer, get to the folder with the picture(s) you want to print
NOTE:  If your pictures are on a floppy, please copy them into a picture folder so you will have access to "Picture Tasks".  If you copy a picture to a newly created, or empty folder the Picture Tasks will be displayed.  If you copy a picture to an existing folder that already contains other file types, the Picture Tasks will not display.  You can change
the folder type: Right-click the folder, and then click Properties. On the Customize tab, under Use this folder type as a template, select Pictures, click Apply, click OK.

  2. Make sure the left pane now has Picture Tasks (if it isn't visible, click the Folders button), click Print Pictures

  3. Photo Printing Wizard will open, click Next

  4. Make sure there is a checkmark in the box by each picture you wish to print, click Next

  5. Choose your printer, click Next

  6. Select the desired layout, (usually Wallet for classroom pictures)

  7. Indicate how many times you want to use each picture (usually 1)
