Creating Filler Text in Microsoft Word

By Michelle Knight

Have you ever wanted to preview a particular font or layout to see how it would look in your document, but you need some "filler" text in your document to test?

By simply following the directions, you can add "The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog." as many times as you want in your document.

Determine how many paragraphs and how many sentences of the above phrase you would like. Then type =rand (1,2) replacing the "1" and "2" with the numbers needed for your desired outcome. The first number represents the number of paragraphs that will be created, and the second number represents the number of sentences in each paragraph.

For example, by typing =rand (2,3) and pressing the enter key, the following text will appear in your document:

The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog. The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog. The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.

The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog. The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog. The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.
