Getting Content into Movie Maker

1.  Start - Programs - Accessories - Entertainment - Movie Maker

2.  Getting content into Movie Maker

  A.  from a digital video camera:
With the camera turned off, attach it to the computer using a 394 IEEE cable.  (Some manufacturers use brand names such as Apple FireWire or Sony i.LINK.)

   i.  Turn camera on - be patient

ii.  “Found new hardware” message appears - continue being patient

iii.  Capture video using Windows Movie Maker - OK

  iv.  Video Capture Wizard opens
       a.  file name
       b.  location (My Documents - My Video) can make new folder

   v.  Next

vi.  Choose a video setting - Best quality for playback on my computer - OK - Next

vii.  Choose type - next - method - I prefer to do it manually and use preview
so I have to "start" and "stop" capture, but have better control

viii.  Patiently wait - it may seem very slow - then - capture has finished successfully -
then wait again while it “imports” the video

Be sure to copy the file to your folder on the server before shutting down (keep Deep Freeze in mind).

Movie Maker only permits you to save the captured video to the local computer (the network is not an option). For performance reasons, the captured video file cannot be saved to a network location. The location to which your captured video will be saved must be a location on your computer hard disk.

  B.  import files into a collection

          Tasks - 1. Capture video - Import video -

locate desired file, highlight it - click Import

When importing it is easiest if you check the box for "Create clips for video files".  Remember, the collection doesn't hold the video file, it only holds the pointer directing to the location of the video file.

Files with these file name extensions may be used in Movie Maker:

Audio files: .aif, .aifc, .aiff .asf, .au, .mp2, .mp3, .mpa, .snd, .wav, .wma

Note:  mp3 and wma are best, wav gets distorted, midi will not work
Read how to convert MIDI to MP3

Picture files: .bmp, .dib, .emf, .gif, .jfif, .jpe, .jpeg, .jpg, .png, .tif, .tiff, .wmf
Video files: .asf, .avi, .m1v, .mp2, .mp2v, .mpe, .mpeg, .mpg, .mpv2, .wm, .wmv
Note:  .mov (usually QuickTime format) cannot be used in Movie Maker
