Most of what follows are "rough notes" based on a presentation Jose Cardenas, WBGU cameraman, (also works with News 6 for NWOET) gave to a BGSU class February 14, 2002.
What should I film? |
![]() |
Necessary
Shots - Before you start, you should know what you need to
"shoot". Hopefully you have a storyboard, even nicer if it
tells the angles and distances of each shot.
"B" Roll - This is all of the "other" shots, not specifically mentioned on the storyboard. These "shots" should contain "filler" such as background, surrounding areas, related topics. You'll appreciate the importance of this when you actually pull the production together. If there aren't enough shots you’ll back yourself into a corner when you edit.
shoot 1-1/2 hrs (90 minutes) of footage to be edited into a 2 minute final production
film at least 15 seconds per shot - this helps with editing the clips later
